When I began my transformation, my main goal was to become healthier. I was weighing in at 220 lbs at 5ft 7in, suffering from the beginning stages of high blood pressure, and had low self confidence. That’s when I decided I need to make a change in my life.
At that time, I was lucky to work for a company that reimbursed your gym fees if you managed to go 4 times per week. That forced me to get use to geting in 4 fours days a week and do something at the gym. If that meant I just walked on the treadmill or did the elliptical, at least I was doing something.
Once I broke through the barriers and made the gym my new healthy habit, I realized I wanted more. I wanted to break through the intimidation that most feel when they start working out for the first time. So I stepped up my game and started seeing a personal trainer a few times a week.
Working out was second nature to me at this point, now was the time to focus on nutrition. What was I eating? How much was I eating? Where could I make changes that would help me in the gym and reflect on the scale.
The weight was coming off, I was so excited. For the first time in my life I was gaining a level of confidence and I knew no one could take that away. I earned with my sweat, tears, and a little blood (those deadlifts can be brutal).
My next goal was to become stronger, faster, and continue to dial my nutrition in.
This is obviously a very shortened version of how I have become healthier and changed my habit over the years and I will continue to share what I have gone through, but that is not what this is about. This is about you and the goals you want to set.
See the thing with goals is you have to set little ones that you can achieve. Even though they are small, hitting those goals gives you the confidence to set and hit the next one. Think of it like stairs; you don’t start from the bottom and jump all the way to the top do you? You have to walk up those steps one by one, building yourself up as you go.
